Idris Turay – Senior Director, National Social Protection Secretariat
Idris Turay currently serves as the Director of the Social Protection Secretariat in the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA). After graduating in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) degree in Economics with honors in Accounting, he was retained as a research assistant in the Accounting and Finance department in the Faculty of Social Science at Fourah Bay College (FBC), University of Sierra Leone. In 2001, he completed a postgraduate study and qualified with a degree of Master of Philosophy (MPhil.) in Economics at the University of Ghana. Returning home, he worked as Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator at Care International, while serving as associate lecturer at the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), University of Sierra Leone. There he taught courses including Economic Statistics, Business Policy and Competitive Environment at the Masters in Business Administration (MBA) classes. In 2003 he joined the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT); the country’s social insurance institution as Regional Manager providing old age pensions, invalidity and survivorship benefits to workers. In 2007, he pursued further studies and graduated with a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Public Policy and Human Development at the Graduate School of Governance, Maastricht University in the Netherlands. He rose to the rank of Director of Investment and Projects at NASSIT.
