*Kenema City, Friday 18th April, 2025* - The National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) has officially launched the Green Public Works (GPW) sub-component of the Productive Social Safety Net and Youth Employment (PSSNYE) project in Kenema. This important milestone aligns with the national development goals set by His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, demonstrating the government's commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable populations in Sierra Leone.
During the launch, Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina emphasized President Julius Maada Bio's commitment to enhancing climate resilience and creating 500,000 jobs for the youth of Sierra Leone. *"Today, we celebrate the launch of the Green Public Works sub-component of the PSSNYE, a program that embodies the President's vision for an inclusive and sustainable future. This initiative not only provides employment opportunities for vulnerable groups but also addresses critical environmental challenges in our urban areas. Through activities such as garbage collection and tree planting, we aim to promote cleaner, greener communities while empowering our youth, women, and persons with disabilities,"* he stated.
The Deputy Mayor of Kenema City Council,Md Rugiatu Koroma, expressed gratitude to President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, the World Bank, and all partners for their unwavering support. *"As a district, we are proud to be part of this initiative that focuses on building cleaner and greener communities through tree planting and waste management. These efforts not only enhance our urban spaces but also empower individuals by equipping them with the skills and resources needed to contribute to the development of our district,”* he noted.
The event featured remarks from local government officials, councilors, and other district stakeholders who pledged their support for the program's implementation. The Commissioner also thanked the World Bank and other partners for their contributions to the PSSNYE project, highlighting its alignment with Sierra Leone's national development goals.
The initiative is expected to enhance livelihoods, promote environmental sustainability, and empower young people across the country. This launch marks the beginning of a journey toward a more inclusive and resilient Sierra Leone.
