*On Friday, February 7, 2025*, the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) held a significant ceremony to hand over construction sites dedicated to vital community projects in Bonthe District, specifically in Tihun and Bauya Junction. Among the projects included in this initiative is the construction of a community pavilion, a specialized skills training centre for youth, and a Type B periodic market.
These projects are integral to the Community Demand Driven Project (CDDP), a government-funded initiative focused on the development and enhancement of essential infrastructure in the rural areas of Sierra Leone. The CDDP aims to construct, reconstruct, and rehabilitate facilities that are fundamental to community life, including health centres, educational institutions, markets, and community centres. By addressing these critical needs, the program strives to improve the overall quality of life for residents in these underserved regions.
During the handover ceremony, Amb. Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina, the Commissioner of NaCSA, highlighted the exclusive funding provided by the Government of Sierra Leone for the CDDP. He explained that the initiative has well-defined objectives and timelines to guide its implementation, ensuring that projects proceed efficiently. Ndomahina also pointed out that similar successful interventions have been carried out in other areas of the country, including Waterloo, providing a model for effective community development.
*“Our institution has refined our project implementation strategies with a focused commitment to realizing the 'big five' game changers essential for national development,” Ndomahina said. “We assure you that these projects will be executed with both speed and precision. As we officially hand over the construction sites, we urge all stakeholders to actively monitor the progress and ensure that the contractor adheres to the established plans and timelines.”*
The event was further dignified by the presence of Minister of Sports Madam Augusta James Teima, who, alongside the Director of Sports Haroun Mustapha Korgi, the Minister of Planning and Economic Development Md Kenyah Balley, Hon. Fatmata Bockarie, and PC Lansana, participated in the ceremonial activities. Together, they marked the groundbreaking for the various community infrastructure projects in Tihun, Sogbini Chiefdom, and the wider Bonthe District, symbolizing a collaborative effort towards sustainable development and empowerment for local communities.
Through initiatives such as the CDDP, NaCSA and the Government of Sierra Leone are demonstrating commitment to fostering growth and improving living conditions for residents, ensuring that essential facilities are available to support economic activities and social cohesion.
