NaCSA AND THE MINISTRY OF SOCIAL WELFARE COLLABORATE TO ACHIEVE GOVERNMENT’s BIG FIVE GAME CHANGERS

The Honorable Minister of Social Welfare Mrs. Melrose Karminty and the Commissioner of NaCSA Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina held a meeting that borders on collaboration concerning the Social Protection of the aged, persons living with disability, widowed, returning migrants, etc.


During his presentation, Mr. Francis Kabia acting Deputy Chief Director for social protection explained the mutual interest both the Ministry and Commission have in Social Protection, he explained the need to strengthen partnership and collaboration for the good of Sierra Leone, he also called on NaCSA to provide logistical support to the ministry that will enhance the capacity of the Ministry.


In her response, the Director of programs at NaCSA, Madam Regina Saffa gave a history of collaboration between the two institutions and reemphasized the meeting to have a work plan. In a similar tone, Dr. Susan Robert the Senior Director of Programme Development and Quality Assurance on behalf of Mr. Idriss Turay Senior Director of Social Protection at NaCSA also added that addressing concerns of returning migrants and refugees is a key element of partnership between the two Ministries.


The commissioner of NaCSA started by presenting a traditional “bora” and water of life signifying a new level of deepened collaboration between the Ministry and its implementing arm(NaCSA). He committed to ensuring that they have a technical team that will work on having a Terms of Reference for the good of the people, thereby ensuring that President Bio’s Big Five Game Changers succeed.


The Minister of Social Welfare thanked the commissioner for setting the stage for a new collaboration, *“We can have different mandates, but with a common aim to better the lives of our people.”* she added. She also suggested that a workshop on the working relationship should be held to strengthen the relationship.


Present at the meeting were Deputy Minister of Social welfare Honorable Mohamed Haji Kella, and Chief Director of Social services of the Ministry of Social welfare, Madam Bangura.


The meeting ended with optimism and a renewed roadmap for a strategic collaboration on social protection interventions. This, as expressed, will accelerated inter-agency effort to achieving the big five game changers.
