*Pujehun District Office, 15th July 2024* – The National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) has Commissioned more than Three Hundred (300) Data Enumerators, Community Monitors and mappers across five districts including Karene, Falaba, Pujehun, Kenema and the Western Area Rural Districts.
The essence is to commence the targeting of six thousand (6,000) potential beneficiaries for the Economic Inclusion (EI) sub-component of the Productive Social Safety Net and Youth Employment (PSSNYE) project.
The EI Sub-component will pilot a program of activities consisting of an integrated livelihood package to extreme poor households. The program will enable these households to diversify their income generating activities. The package will include; training and mentoring, support for behaviour change and links to existing government and nongovernment program in agriculture; links to markets, a start-up capital grant of US$200 that selected beneficiary households will receive, either to expand an existing enterprise or to start a new enterprise.
NaCSA and its implementing agencies will take deliberate accompanying measures to ensure that households receiving the capital grant improve business outcomes. The accompanying measures will include training on business management and micro-enterprise development skills and preparation of investment plans based on an agreed template to initiate or expand micro-enterprise; behavior change sessions focused on showing success stories in the fields of farming activities; diversification of farming and non-farming activities, particularly with a view to support climate vulnerable households diversify and adapt to climate change; and information sessions on savings and insurance.
This intervention aims to lift households out of poverty by providing a range of social protection measures following an economic inclusion or cash-plus approach, which consist in the combination of social safety net provisions with investments in human capital, access to information and services, links to markets, and employment and entrepreneurship facilitation.
During last week press conference on the EI targeting of potential beneficiaries, the Commissioner of NaCSA, Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina reiterated the readiness of the Commission to ensuring that the PSSNYE project is a success. He called on every implementing partners to work within the stipulated time frame and ensure that implementation is in line with the dictates of the Project Implementation Manual (PIM). *‘’… we have made tremendeous progress towards the implementation of the PSSNYE project and we will continue to do so in the best interest of this Country. The Data Enumerators from NaCSA, Community Monitors from the Anti-Corruption Commission and Mappers from Statistics Sierra Leone are expected to use the appropriate targeting mechanisms to target potential beneficiary households for the EI package.
