As the PSSNYE Implementation Progresses, NaCSA Launches the Green Public Works (GPW) for Provincial Cities...



On Friday, April 11, 2025, the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) officially launched the Green Public Works (GPW) sub-component as part of the ongoing implementation of the Productive Social Safety Net and Youth Employment (PSSNYE) project. The mini-launch took place in Portloko city and brought together various stakeholders, local government officials, and community representatives to celebrate this transformative program.


The Green Public Works initiative aims to provide immediate employment opportunities for youth, women, and persons with disabilities from vulnerable households. Participants will engage in activities such as garbage collection and tree planting, which will not only improve the environmental and sanitary conditions of urban areas but also foster community development.


In his address at the launch, Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina emphasized that His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio is committed to enhancing climate resilience and creating 500,000 jobs for the youth of Sierra Leone. *"Today, we celebrate the launch of the Green Public Works sub-component of the PSSNYE, a program that embodies the President's vision for an inclusive and sustainable future. This initiative is not just about providing employment opportunities for vulnerable groups; it also addresses critical environmental challenges in our urban areas. Through activities like garbage collection and tree planting, we aim to promote cleaner, greener communities while empowering our youth, women, and persons with disabilities."*


His Worship The Mayor of Port Loko City Council expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, the World Bank, and all partners for their unwavering support. *"As a district, we are proud to be part of this initiative that focuses on building cleaner and greener communities through activities such as tree planting and waste management. These efforts not only enhance our urban spaces but also empower individuals, equipping them with the skills and resources needed to contribute to the development of our district,”* he noted.


The event also included remarks from local government officials, who pledged their support for the program's implementation. The Commissioner thanked the World Bank and other partners for their contributions to the PSSNYE project, highlighting its alignment with Sierra Leone's national development goals.


It is expected to enhance livelihoods, promote environmental sustainability, and empower young people nationwide. This launch marks the beginning of a journey towards a more inclusive and resilient Sierra Leone.
