Ambassador Ndomahina Introduces Green Public Works Program in Bo, Emphasising Its Role in National Job Creation Efforts...

Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina, the Commissioner for the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), has on Saturday, 19th April 2025, unveiled the Green Public Works (GPW) sub-component of the Productive Social Safety Net and Youth Employment (PSSNYE) project in the southern city of Bo. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to tackle unemployment and enhance social safety nets across Sierra Leone.

In his speech delivered at the event, Commissioner Ndomahina underscored the crucial alignment of the GPW with the government’s ambitious goal of creating 500,000 jobs as part of President Julius Maada Bio’s economic agenda. He expressed the administration's steadfast commitment to not only generating employment but also to reinforcing climate resilience and equipping the next generation with the necessary skills for future challenges.

*“The PSSNYE is a collaborative effort funded by both the Government of Sierra Leone and the World Bank, aimed at improving access to social safety nets and generating income for beneficiaries identified as vulnerable. The GPW, as a significant sub-component of this project, has targeted and enrolled 3,000 beneficiaries in several provincial cities, including Port Loko, Makeni, Koidu New Sembehun, Bo, Kenema, and Bonthe. Furthermore, the initiative complements the 4,000 jobs created through the Freetown City Council's efforts,”* the Commissioner detailed.

This comprehensive initiative not only provides much-needed employment opportunities for marginalised groups but also addresses critical environmental challenges facing urban communities. The GPW encourages participants to engage in various activities, such as garbage collection and tree planting, with the dual aim of promoting a cleaner, greener environment and empowering individuals, particularly youth, women, and persons with disabilities.

During the event, His Worship the Mayor of Bo City Council expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the young people in Bo to President Julius Maada Bio, along with all partners involved in ensuring the GPW's successful implementation. The Mayor emphasized the importance of commitment among beneficiaries, urging them to fully utilize the opportunities provided through this program. Deputy Mayor Mrs. Hawa Campbell echoed these sentiments, reinforcing the expectation of dedication and the transformative potential of the GPW for the community.

This program represents a significant step forward in addressing both unemployment and environmental improvement in Sierra Leone, highlighting the government's commitment to sustainable development and inclusivity.
