In line with the national development plan as articulated by His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, the Commissioner for the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), Amb. Ndomahina, officially commissioned solar-powered water supply systems in Kawula, Kambia District, on Thursday, April 10, 2025. This significant event marks the beginning of a vital initiative designed to enhance the community’s living conditions.
After a welcome address by PC Almamy Lamina Komba II, Commissioner Amb. Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina reassured the people of Kawula that His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio's government remains committed to fulfilling the aspirations outlined in the "Big Five" game changers. “Today’s ceremony is a testament that the people are at the center of His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s development agenda. We will continue to provide the necessary resources for the development of our people,” the Commissioner noted.
Notable figures in attendance included the Honorable Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Derby, Hon. Manso Dumbuya, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sierra Leone Ports Authority, and Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, Chairman of the Special Initiative for Climate Change, Renewable Energy, and Food Security in Sierra Leone. They all expressed their support and highlighted the tremendous work and ongoing aspirations of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio for the people of Kambia and Sierra Leone as a whole.
The construction of these water supply systems is part of the Community Demand Driven Project (CDDP), a comprehensive, government-funded initiative managed by NaCSA. This project aims to address the pressing issue of limited access to safe drinking water, especially in areas struggling with unreliable energy sources.
With this initiative, the government aims to provide a sustainable and transformative solution for the residents of Kawula, ensuring they have consistent access to potable water. The solar-powered nature of the systems not only promotes the use of renewable energy but also enhances the reliability of the water supply. This project reflects the administration's commitment to improving public health and supporting the community's long-term development goals.
