Programme Overview

The Reparations Programme is one of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC) recommendations, and is geared towards providing social justice and rehabilitating victims of the Sierra Leone conflict. The programme targets five categories of victims as recommended in the TRC report of October 2004: Amputees, Other War Wounded, Victims of Sexual Violence (VSVs), Child Victims and War Widows. The strategy is to provide social service packages and livelihood enhancing skills training for these victims with the view of restoring their dignity. Consistent with this strategy, investment is directed towards education, housing, health care, job training, micro grant, symbolic reparation and psychosocial support to victims rather than ephemeral goods.
